It was cool summers eve. Birds singing and cicadas chirping. It was the kind of evening that passed over and left all it touched with a lingering hope for the future. However the only thing that lingered this night, was the dark shadow of death. Gathered in the forest clearing was not only the entire Akimoto clan, but also many of the Kinamita clan. The Akimotos there to grieve over their loss, the Kinamitas to meet their new enemy. Everyone gathered became still and quiet as the lone man walked to the front. "It is a great loss to everyone gathered here tonight. In the early hours of the morning, Lord Akimoto was assassinated. Lord Pyran quickly ran to assist him upon hearing the faint traces of his entry and while he arrived in time to dispatch the assassin, he was too late to save the Lord. To add insult to injury the man was not a Kinamita. He was an Akimoto that has been Lord Pyran's friend since childhood, and like a second soon to the Lord. A new leader will be appointed in two days. If the current heir, Lady Mirany, does not wish to assume her fathers position at the time then Lord Pyran will become the temporary if not permanent ruler of our clan. We will give you all a chance to say your final farewells before his body is returned to the earth from whence it came." Standing in the shadows just beyond the clearing, Pyran silently cursed himself for not being able to help his father.

Salty tears rolled down Mirany's face as she silently mourned her deceased father. If she had just been there... if she hadn't left the village, this wouldn't have happened. She silently cursed herself for not being able to do anything, and her face was in shadows. Her violet hair fell limply over her eyes and her gaze was stuck to the ground. Her frail shoulders shook in silent sobbing as she listened to the speaker.
After a while, it seemed like the words just went through one ear and came out the other. So many words, yet they all meant the same thing: her father was dead. All her life, he had been her only parent. Sure, she had caused him lots of trouble, but only because she didn't know that one day he would be pulled away from her, away from existence.
From now on, life wouldn't be as forgiving to her as it had been. All this time, she had gotten away with just about anything, but now... All the trouble making and worry causing would have to stop. There would be no more time for fun and games, and she would have to concentrate hard on her studies and mastering the fire and earth elements. Nonetheless, she was determined to take over the clan and take charge of it just as her father had, maybe even better.
She wiped her tears and mopped her eyes, and then looked up and straight ahead. She was determined to assume her proper duty as the Akimoto clan leader.

He walked out of the shadows of the trees to stand beside Mirany "Its all right. I'm sure you'll be the greatest leader the Akimoto clan has ever known. And if not, i'll always be there to back you up." He placed his hand on Mirany's shoulder and tried his best not to let his feelings on the inside show on the outside. "Now come on. We had better go say good bye."
